Beginning last week, residents might have noticed Southlake Firefighters with “boots in hand” at various locations around Southlake. They have been collecting donations for the annual “Fill the Boot” Campaign.
Each year firefighters gear up and hit the streets to help raise money for the Muscular Dystrophy Association or MDA. MDA is a nonprofit agency dedicated to finding a cure for muscular dystrophy, amyotrophic lateral sclerosis or ALS, and other neuromuscular related diseases.
MDA was created in 1950 by a group of adults with muscular dystrophy, parents of children with muscular dystrophy and a physician-scientist studying the disorder. Since then, the organization has grown into a “Top-Rated Charity” with .77 cents of every dollar going toward research and services.
Thanks to generous donations, medical researchers across the world can continue to work to find a cure for people suffering from such crippling diseases. You can learn more by visiting the Muscular Dystrophy Association.
It's not too late to “Fill the Boot” this year. Firefighters are accepting donations 7am - 11am at the following locations today and tomorrow:
May 22 - 1709 @ White Chapel Blvd
May 23 - Continental Blvd @ Davis Blvd
- 1709 @ Randol Mill Ave
