The Dragons open the 2012 season on the road at the new $60 million Allen Eagle Stadium on Friday 8/31.
After surprising many area experts and bringing home the school's record tying 8th State Championship, National Coach of the Year Hal Wasson and the Dragon football team won't be sneaking up on anyone in 2012-2013. According to MaxPreps, Southlake is listed at #7 on their national preseason list of the best high school football teams. One of just three Texas teams to make the list, Southlake is joined by Lake Travis-Austin (#16) and Dallas Skyline (#3)- the later of which the Dragon's bested in a thrilling 28-24 come from behind victory in last season's playoffs.
The Dragons will again be led by returning senior quarterback Kenny Hill, a Texas A&M commit who threw for 4,413 yards and 49 TDs and rushed for another 1,399 yards and 24 TDs on his way to 5A Offensive Player of the Year honors. Hill will be joined in the backfield by junior A.J. Ezzard the team's second leading rusher. First Team All-District Safety Tanner Jacobsen, will lead a young defensive squad that graduated its share of All-Everything stars including 5A Defensive Player of the Year Will Davis (LB) and All-State defensive back Sabian Holmes.
The Dragons will open the season on August 31st in a non-district game against the Allen Eagles. This year's game, which will be held at the brand new, $60 million, Allen Eagle Stadium will mark the first time the two teams have met since the 2009 playoffs.
