A year ago, Allen opened the doors to its brand new $60 million AllenbrEagle Stadium and wasted little time in expressing their dominance. This year the Dragons (#23 according to Max Preps Xcellent 25) play host andbrpotentially the role of spoiler as they seek to bounce back from last year’sbropener and give the Eagles (#4 according to Max Preps) an early loss.
Junior Ryan Agnewtakes over at quarterback for Kenny Hill (Texas A&M) — already showingbrquite a bit of chemistry with his receivers taking home this summer’s 7 on 7 state tournament. Agnew will have plenty of experienced targetsbrat wide receiver. The sure-handed RyanbrWeigel returns after leading the Dragons in receiving— catching 48 passesbrfor 887 yards and six TDs. Fellowbrseniors Luke Timian and Keton Duhon bring back another 60brcatches and 1,000+ yards between them in what is without a doubt one of thebrmost experienced groups in the state. brWhen not in the air, third-year starting running back AJ Ezzard (5-9, 200) can steamroll overbropposing defenses.
The always potent Dragon offense will immediately come upbragainst perhaps its toughest test of the year in Allen. The Eagles return seven starters from thebrteam that shut out the Dragons just a year ago. Defensive back Chad Adams postedbr96 tackles and two INTs while linebackers Tay Evans (6-3, 202) and ChristianbrSam (6-2, 207) will fill the middle admirably.
Known for their defense, Allen quarterback Kyler Murray — having alreadybrcaptained his team to a state championship as a sophomore — returns afterbrthrowing for over 2,000 yards and 17 TDs. brHis top target will be WR Cole Carter and up-and-coming
