“Making a sincere effort to avoid surgery when possible is always worth it.”
WHAT IS YOUR HEALTHCARE PASSION? I simply really enjoy the privilege of caring for people. I started my healthcare journey as a physical therapist after attending therapy sessions with my grandfather, and ultimately became an orthopedic hand surgeon. I realized very early on that I enjoyed the very special human interactions that occur between a patient and a caregiver.
WHY DID YOU CHOOSE YOUR PARTICULAR SPECIALTY? I chose hand and wrist surgery because I love the complexity of how the hand interacts with our environment and the precise nature of the surgeries required to address dysfunctions and injuries of the upper extremity.
WHAT IS THE BEST PROFESSIONAL ADVICE YOU’VE EVER RECEIVED One of my professors at Vanderbilt shared the following quote with me: “Remember that there is no condition known to man that can’t be made worse with an operation.” I’ve kept this in mind with every patient my whole career. Making a sincere effort to avoid surgery when possible is always worth it.
