Southlake Carroll defensive back Robert Barnes has earnedbrone of the most prestigious honors in program history.
Barnes received his U.S. Army All-American jersey on Tuesdaybrafternoon, cementing his place as one of the nation’s top high school football players.
“It's a huge opportunity,” Barnes said. “It's a dream comebrtrue. As a high school football player, you dream and look forward to being abrpart of something like this. It's an awesome opportunity. I'm blessed to be abrpart of it.”
The 17th annual U.S. Army All-American Bowl returns to SanbrAntonio, Texas on Jan. 7 and will be played inside the Alamodome. It will bebrbroadcast nationally on NBC.
Southlake Carroll head coach Hal Wasson was also presentedbrwith an award at the ceremony and praised Barnes for his accomplishment.
“We are very proud of Robert and his family,” Wasson said.br“It signifies that he is an elite athlete. We are also very flattered for thisbrprogram. We are proud of all of our players. Robert knows it's a tribute to hisbrteammates and the program.”
Barnes has made a number ofbrbig plays for Southlake Carroll at his safety spot this season and is one ofbrthe team's senior leaders. After graduation Barnes plans to follow in his father Reggie's footsteps to play football at the University of Oklahoma.
After the first game of the year, Barnes also began liningbrup at wide receiver and now plays both ways full-time. He has recorded 12brreceptions for 295 yards and two touchdowns en route to leading SouthlakebrCarroll to a 4-1 start.
“I want to keep leading this team,” Barnes said. “I want tobrkeep being a dominant force on both offense and defense and help my team win anbroutright district championship. We want to go on and win a state championship.”
Southlake Carroll returns to the field this Friday when it takes on Lewisville in an important district matchup.
