Sally Hatfield, abrfreshman at Southlake Carroll, has earned an impressive accolade: She was thebrsecond-place winner of the Lone Star Youth Orchestra's Concerto Competition.
Based in Irving, the Lone Star Youth Orchestra (LSYO) is the only tuition-free youth orchestra in thebrDallas-Fort Worth area. It consists of middle school and high schoolbrstudents from 14 Metroplex school districts. The orchestra performs tonight atbr7 p.m. at the Irving Arts Center’s Carpenter Hall, and the community is invitedbrto celebrate American composers in “Made in America!”
Hatfield plays French hornbrunder the direction of Jay Bach. He says, “I would certainly like tobrcongratulate Sally on this fine accomplishment and wish her the best. Sallybrhas a bright future and is a valued member of the Wind Symphony.”
During the holidays,brHatfield and several friends organized an ensemble called “The Just Brass Band.”brThey played for donations in Southlake Town Square and raised nearly $2,000 forbrParkinson’s and breast cancer research. This summer, Hatfield will perform atbrCarnegie Hall with the Carroll Wind Symphony.
