The Library Foundation of Southlake (LFOS) has announced that bestselling “New York Times” middle-grade author James Ponti, creator of the fan-favorite “City Spies” and the “Framed” series, will be coming to the Southlake Public Library next month for a talk and book signing, followed by two hour-long writing workshops with students ages 9-14.
The Edgar-award-winning author will speak about his incredible journey from reluctant reader to scriptwriter for Nickelodeon and the Disney Channel and how that led him to become a book author.
“Young readers love James Ponti’s books about an unlikely squad of kids who travel the world as part of an elite spy squad,” says Lori Burr, Library Foundation of Southlake president. “As an author, Ponti talks about how he loved writing as a child but never felt like he was a strong reader, so he intentionally started writing books where he felt readers could really immerse themselves into the story. We’re so excited that he’s coming to Southlake and that he’ll be giving our young writers a chance to learn from a master storyteller.”
To generate excitement for Ponti’s visit, LFOS has created a game inviting readers to join the “Southlake City Spies” team. Young readers simply need to visit the library before July 10 for details on how to join.
Remember to bring your copy of “City Spies!” The book signing and author talk will be held 10-11 a.m. on July 10 on the third floor of town hall. No registration is required. For more information on joining the workshop waitlist, visit the Southlake Public Library’s website.
