After filling homes with furniture and seasonal décor for the past 58 years, Pier 1 is closing its stores for good by the end of the year.
The home goods store originally filed for bankruptcy on Feb. 17 due to the economic impacts of COVID-19. While the company sought alternatives for how they could continue business operations, they announced on May 19 that they saw no other choice but to shut down all 540 stores across the country, including the one on Southlake Boulevard.
“This is not the outcome we expected or hoped to achieve,” Robert Riesbeck, Pier 1 Chief Executive and Financial Officer, says in a media release. “This decision follows months of working to identify a buyer who would continue to operate our business going forward. Unfortunately, the challenging retail environment has been significantly compounded by the profound impact of COVID-19, hindering our ability to secure such a buyer and requiring us to wind down.”
The release states that some stores will reopen on Friday, May 22, with the rest of its locations gradually reopening over the next 30-45 days. The website will remain available for online shopping through July. Gift cards can be used in the first 21 days of a store’s opening and online. Coupons and other promotional discounts are invalid effective immediately.
The Southlake Pier 1 store is located at 1275 E. Southlake Blvd., Suite 401. Call 817.251.7384 for store hours or shop online at Pier1.com.
