It was a festive scene atbrthe Southlake Hilton on June 22 as the Southlake Chamber of Commerce celebrated honorees at its 2017 Awards Banquet. Themed “Havana Nights,” guests were treated to mini salsa lessons and enjoyed entertainment from the Havana NRG Band and comedian Aaron Aryanpur. The presenting sponsor at the event was Texas Health Harris Methodist Hospital Southlake.
“This is the night when we honor those in the Southlake community that have made positive changes in our Chamber and in the city and set an example for others to follow with their initiative, creativity and energy,” said Mark Guilbert, president and CEO of the Southlake Chamber of Commerce, via press release.
The coveted Citizen of the Year Award was presented to John Slocum, a longtime Southlake resident. He has served on the Board for the City of Southlake Parks and Recreations Department and was a member of the Southlake Park Development Corporations Board for five years. Hebris a member of the Mid-Cities Care Corp Strategic Planning Committee as well as a board member of the Miracle League of Southlake since its inception. Slocum serves on the Board of the Bob Jones Nature Center as well. Slocum is a member of Southlake Kiwanis Club and is an active member of the Southlake Chamber of Commerce.
