Change Your Perspective on Anxiety
Anxiety comes in many forms and affects far too many of us. Although an overnight solution for anxiety would be great, it’s just not a possibility for most. But what if peace were available even in the middle of anxiety? Is it possible to change your perspective and find that peace?
Your perspective drives how you feel about the situations you face. Struggling with anxiety and wondering why it won’t go away can fuel your anxiety further. But what if you saw anxiety as an opportunity to trust God? Changing your perspective may not eliminate your anxiety, but it might help you deal with it in a healthier way.
Pastor Craig says it this way: “Life will always move in the direction of our strongest thoughts.” So, when you’re struggling with anxiety, consider what questions you’re asking yourself, what thoughts you’re focusing on, and how you might change your perspective.
But first, remember this: "Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight." Proverbs 3:5-6 NIV
You can’t fight anxiety alone. You need God’s peace, which comes from His presence. So the best way to change your perspective about anxiety is by asking God for help through prayer and from others around you (Proverbs 27:17). Look at what Paul wrote about anxiety in Philippians:
"Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus." Philippians 4:6-7 NIV
So, the next time you find yourself struggling with anxiety, here some good questions to help change your perspective:
- What can I give to God?
- How can I rely on the people God has placed in my life?
- What might God want to teach me through this?
Life is too short and your calling is too great to go at it alone.
