Carroll ISD announced this week that the Athletic Director Interview Committee did not reach consensus on a candidate for the district's vacant Athletic Director position. As a result the district plans to continue having Dr. JJ Villarreal, Assistant Superintendent for Student Services, oversee athletics with assistance from Boys' Coordinator Hal Wasson and Girls' Coordinator Teri Morrison.
CISD officials said about 72 applicants applied for the vacancy of Carroll ISD Athletic Director and Champion Search Firm then also recruited another 14 applicants. From that larger group of 86, Champions officials interviewed approximately 12 individuals and provided the CISD Administration with the names of several finalists.
A committee comprised of central office and campus administrators, head coaches and parent representatives interviewed the finalists with the hope of sending a formal recommendation to Superintendent David J. Faltys. The Superintendent ultimately makes recommendations for hiring to the Board of Trustees.
“We had some excellent candidates, but our committee process is designed to reach a consensus on top candidates to recommend to the Superintendent,” said Dr. Villarreal. “That just didn't happen, and we want to take our time and find the right person for this position.”
A CISD spokesperson said the administration will close the vacancy for now and plans to regroup to decide when to repost the position or consider other options.
