While lots of local kiddos went from house to house to collect sweets this year, one set of kids gave back to others to celebrate the holiday. On October 30, Hailey and Ryan Cawley, Abram and Ava Montoya, Sienna and Reid Wheeler and Abbey and Eva Walker handed out candy to HarborChase residents.
Erica Cawley, mother of Hailey and Ryan, called HarborChase and asked if the eight children could pass out candy to the seniors along with a few drawings created by the kids.
“I wanted to find a way to give and help teach my young children and toddlers that it's not all about getting,” Erica says. “The seniors faces lit up when they saw us. They loved the treat of candy but were especially delighted with the drawings we did for them. Our children are learning their ABC'S and names, and the seniors were impressed with their handwritten and therefore made the children proud!”
Erica has already said she wants to bring the kids back to do the reverse trick or treating in 2019. And HarborChase has already invited them back next year. But Erica says that's not all she has planned for these kids.
"The HarborChase activity director invited us back this month to read to the seniors on National Young Readers Day and [we] will also be partnering with them on several future events," Erica says.
