After forming an alliance for unity and culture earlier this year, Mayor Laura Hill and the city of Southlake have launched a city-wide survey to get a pulse of the community’s diversity and inclusion.
Hill announced last year that she would organize an alliance of community members from several ages and backgrounds to advise the city on the most effective ways to promote diversity and equality, according to a previous Southlake Style story. Thirty-one members joined the Mayor’s Alliance for Unity and Culture in January, and they’ve recently released a survey to help them decide where their focus needs to be next.
“The great aspect about the community survey is that it allows for all members of our community a space where they can provide open and honest feedback without fear of judgment,” Lauren LaNeave, Assistant to the City Manager, says in a city media release.
Survey results will help the alliance in developing recommendations for the Community Action Plan, which the city would use as a roadmap of sorts towards community unity. The anonymous survey takes about five to seven minutes to complete and includes questions such as how the community welcomes people of all races, sexual orientations and abilities.
The survey is available on the city's website and is open until Monday, August 5. The action plan will be presented to the council later in January 2020.
