The 2014 Sochi Winter Games have been everything frombrboring. Whether you're a fan of figure skating, escaping bathroom lock ins orbrvictorious underdogs, there's something for everyone.
The greatest thing about the Olympics – both summer andbrwinter – is it gives Americans the chance to show their support for theirbrcountry.
However, showing your pride for the red, white and bluebrbecomes a lot more personal when you can cheer on individuals from your ownbrbackyard.
This year, there are roughly eight Olympians competing inbrthe 2014 Sochi games from Texas. Out of these eight Olympians, three are from North Texas.
The renowned bobsledder Johnny Quinn went viral during thisbryear's games when he posted on Twitter about bustingbrhis way through the Sochi bathroom door.
McKinney's own Quinn is a former professional football widebrreceiver, playing for NFL teams such as the Buffalo Bills and Green BaybrPackers. As a University of North Texas alumnus, Quinn was inducted into thebruniversity's Hall of Fame in 2011.
Speedskater Jordan Malone is a returning Olympian, earningbrbronze in the 2010 Winter Olympics. The Dentonite was crowned the fastest manbrin the world in 2003, winning the Senior World Championships.
Additionally, several Dallas Stars team members arebrcompeting in Sochi, but not for Team USA.
Interesting enough, Jamie Benn will play for Canada, KaribrLehtonen will play for Finland, Valeri Nichushkin will play for Russia andbrStars coach Lindy Ruff will be an associate coach for Canada's team.
While he's no longer an all-star athlete, Grapevine's ownbrLewis Johnson is in attendance at the 2014 Sochi Winter Games. The former trackbrstar turned bobsled, luge and skeleton reporter will serve his eighth Olympicsbrfor NBC Sports.
Most recently, at the 2012 London Olympics, Johnson was thebrmarathon reporter and also served as a track and field reporter at the 2008brBeijing Olympics.
Johnson is married to French artist Dominque Galleron whobrowns A Touch of Paris Gallery in Grapevine.
