This sounds familiar but never gets old – it was anotherbroutstanding year of Dragon sports success. Looking back at 2012, Dragonbrathletics continued to thrive under the moniker of “Protect The Tradition.”brFrom January to December, the moments were unforgettable for these remarkablebrstudent-athletes.
“At the start of the school year, we introduced the acronym OBIYTC to ourbrcoaching staff and program to indicate that Our Best Is Yet To Come,” CarrollbrISD Athletic Director Kevin Ozee said. “Even with all of the success from ourbrprogram last year, we have a great opportunity to improve our process andbrultimately produce more positive results. Get ready, 2013 will be anotherbrbanner year for the Dragons!”
Let's shine the spotlight on some big events of 2012…
Lone Star Cup
The Dragons claimed the University Interscholastic League Lone Star CupbrChampionship in Class 5A for the first time in school history. Carroll moved tobr5A, the state's largest classification, in 2002 and previously won the awardbrtwice in 4A. The award honors the school district with the most success in UILbrcompetitions.
SweetbrRepeat
The Carroll Dragon boys' and girls' cross-country teams were on an unstoppablebrmission to repeat history. They accomplished the dream as they both repeated asbrClass 5A state champions. The program was also recognized as the best in thebrnation at the Nike Cross Nationals in December.

Part of the athletic success at Carroll can be found on National Letter ofbrIntent Signing Day. In February, nine athletes signed and in November, thirteenbrsigned with colleges or universities. Signing Day includes a big celebration atbrCarroll Senior High School as family, friends and coaches pack the StudentbrActivity Center.
One WinbrAway
Dragon baseball had a memorable spring as they rode an impressive playoff hotbrstreak. The late season push landed the Dragons one victory shy of the 5A statebrbaseball tournament in Round Rock. The team defied the odds after losing acebrTyler Alexander to injury to ultimately reach the Region I final.
Splash Of Gold
The Dragons and coach Kevin Murphy, who earned National Coach of the Year, continuedbrits state powerhouse role in swimming and diving. The boys' and girls' teamsbrset Class 5A state meet point records racing to state championships. For thebrboys, it was their second consecutive title and Ted Singley won two individualbrgold medals. The girls made it truly memorable winning state for the first timebrin program history as three relay teams earned gold. The girls also added thebrtitle of the nation's top swimming/diving program.
Kriegshauser'sbrFantastic Finish
Distance runner Courtney Kriegshauser left Austin with gold last May. At thebrend of her junior year, she added to her cross country state title with anbrindividual title at the Class 5A State Track and Field meet. She won the 1,600brmeters with a time of 4:53 and entered the state meet after winning the RegionbrI title.
Wrestling onbrthe Rise
Coach Joe Hathaway has something special brewing with the Dragon wrestlingbrprogram. For the first time in program history the Dragons earned the Dual TeambrDistrict title and District Tournament title. In addition, two Dragons – MattbrSwoyer and Cody Lindberg – qualified for the 5A state meet.
Parade of Champions Held in Southlake’s Town Square in April, this event brought a communitybrtogether one afternoon to celebrate the success of sports in Carroll ISD.brThousands attended as Dragons state and national champions were honored downbrthe streets of Town Square. Green and white decorated streets and the paradebrconcluded with recognition on the Town Hall steps.
