Keeping Halloween safe for families, especially for those whose children have special needs, is a priority for PediaPlex, a Southlake child development and pediatric therapy center. To that end, the staff will sponsor a free Halloween event, open to the public, from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 29, 2015. The trick-or-treat event will feature allergy-approved snacks and healthy treats for children and cooperative games that initiate social interaction in an environment that caters to the needs of children with autism.
This event was designed to meet the concerns and challenges of families who have autistic children and who want to celebrate Halloween festivities in a safe way. Children with autism sometimes react to a departure from usual routine or become upset by overstimulation. Situations with crowds of people also can be frightening. For this reason, the event will provide safe boundaries to help children stay calm and enjoy the fun and alleviate parents’ worry about their children wandering.
"It is PediaPlex's pleasure to serve the community with this free event,” said Sonia Kirkpatrick, CEO and founder of PediaPlex. “We enjoy seeing all of our princesses, ghosts and goblins at this very special event! Our therapists enjoy having a door-decorating contest and joining in with the kids in dressing up in their favorite costumes. We invite families in our community to come and have a spooktacular evening!"
The Halloween event also will give families an opportunity to tour the facility and discover what PediaPlex has to offer. PediaPlex is an all-inclusive clinic, with services including psychological testing, academic assessments, and a variety of therapies. The staff cooperates in helping families whose children suffer from a variety of disorders that contribute to social, behavioral and educational problems. By offering multi-disciplinary services, PediaPlex supports families in many ways, all in one central location.
