The Southlake Historical Society recently won an award for the exhibit it held on Bob and Almeady Chisum Jones last summer.
From July to September last year at Southlake Town Hall, the Southlake Historical Society organized an exhibit titled “Bob and Almeady Chisum Jones: A True Story of Resilience, Courage and Success” that told Bob Jones’ story and how he went from being formerly enslaved to a successful rancher. The exhibit included items such as Bob’s clothes, one of his daughter’s dresses and letters written by Bob to his father.
Last week, the American Association For State And Local History recognized the Southlake Historical Society, along with 38 other winners, with the Leadership In History award for their contributions to preserving history. National Awards Chair Christy Crisp says it's always inspiring to see the work of their award winners, but the 2021 winners are even more amazing to her.
“The challenges we have all faced over the past 18 months make the incredible work displayed through this year’s award-winning projects all the more extraordinary,” Christy says in a media release. “The projects represented in this year’s Leadership In History awards truly illustrate the creative, dedicated and tenacious spirit of the many organizations large and small that make the awards program so exciting.”
