AUSTIN – Rep. Vicki Truitt (R-Keller) has been appointed to the Joint Interim Committee to Study the Public School Finance System by House Speaker Joe Straus, pursuant to Senate Bill 1, First Called Session, 82nd Legislature.
"I'm pleased to appoint Representative Truitt to this committee because I know she shares my commitment to education, and knows the important role it plays in maintaining Texas' economic competitiveness," said Speaker Straus.
Rep. Truitt stated, “This appointment is very meaningful for the people of the 98th District.” As one of only a handful of House members appointed, this is great positioning for Grapevine-Colleyville ISD, Carroll ISD, Keller ISD, and Northwest ISD, as well as our charter schools.
“I'll be able to play a key role as the state seeks a better way to fund public education and devises a better formula through which state funding is disbursed for public education. My being on this Interim Committee will ensure that the voices and opinions of the people from the 98th District will be heard in Austin,” she said.
The purpose of the committee is to conduct a comprehensive study of the public school finance system in Texas and in turn, make recommendations to the 83rd Legislature.
In conjunction with her service on this special committee, Rep. Truitt says she will be actively engaging local residents, educators, and students to help prepare her to communicate the challenges with education, and to help formulate ideas to improve education and address the challenges.
“I am honored by the appointment, and thrilled to have this opportunity,” said Truitt. "Few issues are more critical to our State's future than the quality of our public schools and the education they provide to our young people," she added.
Representative Vicki Truitt is a seventh term legislator from Tarrant County representing the people of Grapevine, Colleyville, Southlake, Keller, Westlake, and parts of Trophy Club and Fort Worth. She chairs the House Committee on Pensions, Investments and Financial Services, and is a member of the House Committees on Calendars and Public Health.
