Tarrant County will have to go another month wearing masks in businesses and buildings.
In late June, Tarrant County Judge Glen Whitley signed an executive order requiring masks while in businesses and buildings in Tarrant County. According to the executive order, the mandate was required for all customers and employees in Tarrant County until the order’s expiration on Monday, August 3. But on Friday, August 1, Whitely extended the order until the end of the month, with the new expiration date set for Monday, August 31.
According to the order, acceptable face covering options include homemade masks, scarves, bandanas, handkerchiefs and anything else that can appropriately cover an individual’s face and nose. Exemptions include children under 10, those consuming food or drinks, those whose services would be impaired by a mask and individuals who have a mental or physical health risk from wearing a face covering. Businesses could face a fine of up to $1,000 if they violate the order.
CISD Superintendent Dr. David Faltys previously said during a virtual Q&A that the district will comply with state and local executive orders.
"For right now, if someone is in our building, anyone 10 years or older, it is a requirement to have a mask," Faltys said on Thursday, July 30. "For kids under 10, we do have the leeway to look at what’s developmentally appropriate for students."
