Southlake's May 12th general election is fast approaching. On this day voters will cast their ballot to elect a Mayor and City Council Member, Place 2 and various places for the Carroll School Board of Trustees.
Filing has begun for all positions and will continue until March 5th. As of our posting today the following people have filed as candidates for the upcoming city election:
Current Mayor John Terrell has filed as a candidate to return for the office of Mayor of Southlake, a position he has held since 2009. Prior to being elected Mayor, Mr. Terrell held a position on the Southlake City Council from 2004 to 2009. A Southlake resident for more than 14 years, John and his wife Joanne have two children. Carolyn Morris has served as City Council Member, Place 2 since 2002 and has filed an application to be a candidate for that position on the May 12th ballot. A long time resident of Southlake, Carolyn and her husband Tom have four daughters and five grandchildren.
On February 4th, the first official day to file for CISD General Trustee Election, incumbents Read Ballew (Place 4) and Erin Shoupp (Place 5) also filled for re-election.
Early voting starts on April 30th and concludes on May 8, 2012. Southlake residents may vote at any early voting location for the county in which they reside and a list of early voting locations and poll hours will be available on our website in the near future.
On Election Day Southlake voters must go to their County precinct polling location; a listing will be available soon. Citizens should bring their voter registration cards and/or a photo id with them to their assigned polling location.
