All Texas adults will be eligible to receive a COVID-19 vaccine starting next week.
Previously Texas put a priority on health care workers, at-risk individuals, residents 65 or older and school and child care workers to receive the vaccine. So far, Texas has administered more than 9.3 million doses of the vaccine, with 3 million fully vaccinated and 6 million receiving at least one dose, according to the Texas Department of State Health Services.
After expanding the vaccine eligibility to residents 50 or older last week, Texas is planning to expand eligibility again to all Texas adults 18 or older. According to state health services, the state’s expert vaccine allocation panel recommended expanding eligibility due to more vaccine supplies arriving at the state next week.
"We want to keep up the momentum as the vaccine supply increases,” says Imelda Garcia, associate commissioner for laboratory and infectious disease services. “As eligibility opens up, we are asking providers to continue to prioritize people who are the most at risk of severe disease, hospitalization and death, such as older adults.”
The new eligibility requirements go into effect on Monday, March 29. To register, visit TarrantCounty.com/COVIDVaccine, or find additional providers on DSHS.Texas.GOV/COVIDVaccine.
