Southlake City Council Members, staff and TXU representatives celebrated the generous donation of 35 trees from TXU Energy as part of their Committed to Community Growth program.
The ribbon-cutting ceremony featured Mayor John Terrell, Deputy Mayor Pro Tem Pamela Muller and Councilmember Carolyn Morris. Additionally, TXU representatives Cary Barnett and Lacy Sperry were present.
"We are proud to be in partnership with TXU on this very important project, Mayor Terrell said. "Building a sustainable community, with a focus on the land, the economy and its people, is a long-term goal for the City of Southlake. I'm pleased that these trees are now a part of community fabric, yet another investment into our future and our children's future."
The goal of the program is to create healthy communities through tree planting while increasing the return on investment that is being made for future generations.
TXU Energy, together with volunteers from the community, businesses and the Texas Trees Foundation, have planted more than 180,000 trees across Texas since 2002.
