As many of you have heard, the Hilton Southlake temporarily closed on Sunday, April 12. It was a very difficult decision. My family and our Hilton family's first concern was for the safety and health of our team members and our guests.
We took many precautions to achieve that goal. Once it became apparent that business was not going to be the same, we made the decision to temporarily close the hotel to protect our guests, team members and their families. Our team members were given temporary furloughs, and we helped many of them fill out their unemployment forms. We are staying in touch with our team weekly.
We do not have a specific reopening date. I do not believe any of us can predict the future, especially after watching COVID-19 information progress over the past few weeks. We will be ready to open once restrictions are lifted and travel picks up. Of course, as with all my friends in business, safety and health will be a big part of that decision.
The team has missed hosting our many school functions, weddings and our business meetings. They miss the many friends we have in the community.
The saddest part of this for me is our team, who many of you know are great ambassadors of customer service and exhibit the ultimate guest experience, won the Connie Award from Hilton for 2019. This recognizes the best Hilton in North and South America for guest service, cleanliness and condition of the hotel, as measured by guest comments.
We were notified by Hilton about our achievement in late March. In nine of the past ten years, we were in the top five of Hiltons. To finally get that top recognition is something to celebrate, as everyone has worked very hard to achieve this goal. But the celebration is on hold until we can all celebrate.
In closing, I can assure you the Hilton will open after the virus passes. We will be ready to serve our community and friends with the same passion as we have always.
