DeMarcus Ware, the career leader in sacks for the Dallas Cowboys (117), has been named to the Pro Football Hall of Fame’s class of 2023 during the NFL Honors Awards Ceremony. He and four other modern-era players, including another Cowboys linebacker in Zach Thomas, will be enshrined at a special ceremony in Canton, Ohio this Saturday, Aug. 5.
The former linebacker and gym owner, who lives in Southlake, was among 15 former modern-era standouts who were announced as finalists for the Hall's class of 2023. Ware, a member of the Super Bowl 50 Champion Denver Broncos, was a nine-time Pro Bowl selection who accounted for 138.5 sacks during 12 seasons in the NFL.
The slate of candidates for the Modern-Era Player category was considered when the Hall of Fame’s selection committee met virtually before Super Bowl LVII.
The players to be enshrined, along with their positions, years and teams are:
- Ronde Barber, Cornerback/Safety – 1997-2012 Tampa Bay Buccaneers
- Darrelle Revis, Cornerback – 2007-2012 New York Jets, 2013 Tampa Bay Buccaneers, 2014 New England Patriots, 2015-16 New York Jets, 2017 Kansas City Chiefs
- Joe Thomas, Offensive Tackle – 2007-2017 Cleveland Browns
- Zach Thomas, Linebacker – 1996-2007 Miami Dolphins, 2008 Dallas Cowboys
- DeMarcus Ware, Linebacker/Defensive End – 2005-2013 Dallas Cowboys, 2014-16 Denver Broncos
