This Thanksgiving, the bird is the word in Dallas. Before you get your gobble on, take part in a fun-filled, heart-pumping celebration of tradition, community and good, old-fashioned exercise: the 50th anniversary of the Dallas YMCA Turkey Trot. For half a century, runners and walkers alike have descended upon downtown Dallas to kick off their Thanksgiving with an eight-mile race or a 5K Fun Run/Walk. All are welcome, including families with strollers, wheelchair racers and dogs. If you really want to work up an appetite, sign up for the eight-mile course that starts at City Hall and takes you across the Trinity River and back downtown. Even if you’re not a runner or walker, there are plenty of activities for the whole family to enjoy, from pony rides and bounce houses to live music and more. Can’t venture away from the kitchen on Thanksgiving morning? Participate in the virtual race instead—you’ll receive a race T-shirt and still have your turkey and pumpkin pie looking pristine come feast time.brbr
The Dallas YMCA Turkey Trot has grown into one of the country's largest, multi-event races, with generations of families showing up to take part in the fun. Wear your best turkey getup or just slip on your sneakers and join tens of thousands of people in what has become the best way to start Thanksgiving Day. Proceeds from the annual event help the Dallas YMCA further its mission to serve local kids and families. We can all toast to that!
