For a night of live music, auction items and giving back, head over to Roanoke's Chopshop Live on August 1 from 7 to 10 p.m. The benefit night, hosted by the nonprofit Texas Sentinels Foundation, will be raising funds for a local wounded warrior’s new home.
Marine SSGT Charles Lauersdorf joined the Marine Corps in 2001. Over his tenure, he was deployed in both Iraq and Afghanistan. After spending years immersed in heavy combat operations, he was severely wounded and eventually awarded a Purple Heart, on top of several other military awards and decorations for his efforts.
Charles dedicated years to serving and protecting his nation, and now Texas Sentinels Foundation wants to give back to him. Thanks to the nonprofit, the father of four will receive a 100 percent debt-free, mortgage-free and fully furnished home in North Fort Worth this year.
“Words could not possibly begin to express how honored I am. This is truly life changing for my kids and me and I am beyond grateful,” Charles says via press release. “I will do my best to pay it forward and be the best ambassador for Texas Sentinels Foundation. It's been an honor to be a champion for such a great cause over the last few years and am thrilled to be officially part of the TSF family.“
Proceeds gathered will benefit this hero’s home. Admission runs at $10 per person, and guests can choose to make an additional donation if they feel so inclined. You can buy your tickets here.
The event will feature local guitarist Benton Lawson as well as a silent auction and a live auction. A cash bar and food will also be available for purchase.
