Two of Southlake's biggest CrossFit advocates will be testing their limits against the world's fiercest competitors this month.
Earlier this spring, over 300,000 athletes signed up in the open to qualify for a spot on the 2024 CrossFit Games. While just north of 200 athletes qualify for the final divisions, two of those athletes are from the local Texan Fitness gym right here in Southlake.
“I’ve been chasing this goal for about 12 years now," Randi Stevens says. "To finally get it has been surreal because of how much time and effort you put into your training and nutrition. It’s hard to put into words what it feels like to finally reach a goal that you’ve been chasing for so long.”
As a co-owner and coach for Texan Fitness, Randi is well-versed in strongman and heavy barbell exercises and most enjoys the competitive side of CrossFit. But in addition to this being Randi's first year qualifying, this is also Heath Moody's third time qualifying for the CrossFit Games.
“I cannot understate the support that Texan Fitness has given myself,” Heath says. “I wouldn’t be here and wouldn’t have the energy, the drive or the gusto if it weren’t for them.”
Randi will compete at the CrossFit Games at Dickies Arena in Fort Worth this weekend, while Heath will compete in the master's division at the Birmingham Jefferson Convention Center in Alabama later this month. However far they go, both are equally proud to be part of the CrossFit community.
“I’m really looking forward to showcasing my effort in front of my gym, my friends and my family," Randi says. "I just really love that no matter where you go, you can connect with people that do CrossFit.”
