The National Merit Scholarship Corporation recently named 16,000 semifinalists for the 69th National Merit Scholarship program, 39 of which are Southlake Carroll seniors.
To be considered for a Merit Scholarship award, semifinalists must have an outstanding academic record, be recommended by a high school official, receive high marks on the SAT or ACT and submit a personal essay. Around 95% of semifinalists are expected to become finalists, and approximately half of finalists are expected to win one of 7,140 National Merit Scholarships that are worth nearly $28 million.
This year’s 39 finalists from Southlake Carroll include Aishwarya Aggarwal, Taksheel Aileni, Sajjaad Azam, Andrew Balson, Umair Bhat, Michael Blumberg, Elizabeth Boyd, Krish Dalela, Elizabeth Dean, Raine Ducey, Hayden Echols, Sindhu Guntur, William Hao, Shayaan Jafri, Jonathan Jose, Sahasra Kandukuri, Bailey Koh, Joshua Landgraf, Fe Lau, Akshaya Meka, Evan Mitchell, Gautam Nalliah, Allison Nef, Spandan Patel, Yuki Pilon, Kate Ponzo, Arjun Rai, Nikhil Reddy, Dev Saray, Saarim Syed, Ketan Tamirisa, Jake Tessnow, Madeleine Tran, Ashlynn Tusneem, Aleeza Virani, Charissa Wang, Hudson Whitney, Brendan Wu and Ian Yu. A celebration with the semifinalists and their families was held at Carroll Senior High School earlier this week.
