As Texas continues to reopen at limited capacity, Carroll ISD is moving forward with plans to hold its senior graduation ceremony by the end of the month.
The district previously unveiled three different graduation plans depending on when the state could safely reopen. With Texas Gov. Greg Abbott allowing his original public health disaster order to expire on April 30, the district went ahead with iplan A, which was to host graduation on Friday, May 29 at Dragon Stadium.
CISD Board of Trustees President Sheri Mills says graduates will sit 6 feet apart to maintain social distancing. Other safety measures such as hand sanitizer stations and face masks are also being currently reviewed by the district.
"There are all kinds of tragedies caused by COVID-19, and one of those is losing all of the sentimental moments of your senior year," Sheri expresses. "I am genuinely so sad for each of our graduates for what they have lost, and to give them back graduation is very important. This is so meaningful because when you are just 18 years old, you really have waited your whole life to cross that stage."
The district will distribute graduation caps, gowns and invitations on Wednesday, May 13, at the senior high campus during a drive-thru pick-up event. Personal graduation messages can also be purchased for $50 up until May 22.
