Carroll ISD unveiled its new STEAM Center that has been several years in the making earlier this week.
Part of the $208-million bond package that voters approved back in 2017, the new STEAM Center is a science and technology-driven facility located inside Carroll High School. The space was formerly utilized as Carroll ISD’s previous band hall before it was repurposed exclusively for Carroll’s STEAM programs.
“Our district’s STEAM initiative continues to bring pride to our district,” CISD Superintendent Dr. Lane Ledbetter says. “It clearly demonstrates the expectations of excellence in the areas of science, technology, engineering, the arts and mathematics. That’s what this entire facility represents.”
The new facility includes new lecture classrooms, computer labs, collaborative spaces, building sheds and shops specifically tailored to Carroll’s civil engineering, computer science, rockets and robotics classes, with new classes being added to the district’s STEAM program next year. The new facility also gives robotics students more workspace to design and test their robots, with a battle bot arena set up specifically for performance evaluations.
The new STEAM Center is open now at 800 N. White Chapel Blvd.
