Virtual learning has become more vital to Carroll ISD’s curriculum than ever before, and 11 educators are helping to pave the way forward with Dragons Gone Digital.
Started in 2014, the Dragons Gone Digital program is a learning initiative by the district’s technology department to increase teacher’s virtual prowess through training, workshops and technological integration. CISD instructional technology specialist Jennifer Waldroop says teachers take what they’ve learned in the program and share it with their respective campuses.
“We look for teachers who are interested in learning more about using technology to improve student learning,” Jennifer says. “Several years ago, the DGD group piloted learning management systems and helped the Technology Department select Canvas for the district. Another year, the DGD group piloted Google applications before we rolled it out to the district. This year, the focus was on virtual learning and teachers interested in ‘fixing up’ their lessons.”
The 11 CISD educators include Carroll Elementary teacher Krista Dragoo, Johnson Elementary teacher Michael Garvey, Old Union Elementary teacher Megan Purvis, Rockenbaugh Elementary teacher Melanie Stringer, Walnut Grove Elementary teacher Sheri Sutton, Durham Intermediate teacher Deanna Gauby, Eubanks Intermediate teacher Jeremy Jennings, Carroll Middle teacher Linda Grady, Dawson Middle teacher Eddie Morman, Carroll High teacher Amanda Jackson and Carroll Senior High Teacher Kenady Shope. Jennifer says these Dragons Gone Digital teachers will not only be able to participate in their workshops but also will attend the Texas Computer Education Association Conference this month.
“Technology is always evolving,” Jennifer says. “Carroll ISD’s vision for technology is to create anytime, anywhere learning using the best tools and resources available. The Dragons Gone Digital program is an essential part of making this vision a reality.”
