Carroll ISD released its draft fall planning guide for review on Thursday, June 25. According to the draft document, students and staff will be required to prescreen for their temperature and symptoms at home before coming to school.
If they have a fever of 100 degrees or higher, students and staff are instructed to stay at home. If individuals are tested and found that they have COVID-19, they cannot return to school unless symptoms have improved, three days have passed since recovery and at least 10 days have passed since symptoms first appeared.
For those that come to school, medical-grade disinfectants will be used after each school day to deep clean classrooms, common areas and high-touch areas at night. Sneeze guards and plexiglass will be added to public reception desks and personal interaction areas, and social distancing signage will be added throughout school facilities.
Students will be issued picture IDs to wear on lanyards to avoid high-touch situations in the cafeteria and the library, and staggered schedules will be introduced to maintain social distancing during lunch periods.
According to Texas Education Agency health guidelines, students are not required to wear masks while in school. The district, however, will receive 76,088 disposable masks and 19,022 reusable masks for both student and staff use. The district is also going to receive 33,524 gloves, 986 adult face shields, 895 gallons of hand sanitizer and 63 touch-free thermometers.
The district is also considering three options for instruction delivery in the fall. According to the draft document, those options include regular in-person instruction, two-way, real-time live virtual instruction and a hybrid model between the two options. Parents and CISD staff were emailed a survey on Thursday afternoon to review and respond to these proposals. The deadline to respond to the survey is noon on Thursday, July 9.
