The Carroll ISD board of trustees is considering a potential one week delayed start to the 2020-2021 school year, according to a board agenda.
Although school is currently scheduled to start on Monday, August 17, Assistant Superintendent for Student Services Janet McDade suggested pushing the start date back to August 24 to allow for more training days for teachers. With the district recently purchasing web cameras that will be installed in 669 spaces across the district, Janet says teachers would need the extra time to learn how to use them and work on instruction delivery in a virtual setting.
“A lot of work has been done this summer to prepare for virtual learning that is more robust than last spring,” the district says in an email. “This will give us five additional teacher training days to prepare our staff for implementation of the Dragon Virtual Academy.”
The board discussed the delay but did not vote on it, saying that the decision will be made in a future meeting. The district also approved the purchase of desk shields for students in an amount not to exceed $92,600 from the general fund balance. The board will meet again during their next meeting on Monday, August 3.
