The CISD District Diversity Council has released its cultural competence action plan that it’s been working on since last December.
After the district reviewed the findings from its Dragon Cultural Survey in February, the District Diversity Council drafted a five-year plan to create cultural awareness and sensitivity in Carroll ISD. According to the draft action plan, the council has five main goals: promote cultural competence, facilitate communication and understanding, advocate and support culturally competent programs and policies, engage student, staff and teachers on district diversity and propose strategies for reaching cultural competence.
The council has proposed a variety of solutions to attain these goals. Some proposed actions include hiring a director of equity and inclusion, providing diversity and inclusion training for students and teachers, establishing a student focus group or task force, generating a discrimination reporting system, creating mini diversity dashboards and infographics, organizing annual multicultural events, assembling audit teams to assess campuses’ cultural competence, hosting diversity dialogues during board meetings and implementing a written HR plan to increase diverse staff hired at CISD.
The District Diversity Council will present the plan to the board of trustees during its meeting on August 3. You can review the plan at SouthlakeCarroll.edu.
