Middle and high school students at The Clariden School have qualified to compete in the national finals of the 13th annual Team America Rocketry Challenge (TARC). Approximately 700 teams competed, and the school in Southlake made the top 100.
Next, they are set to compete in Washington D.C. this May to try to claim the national championship and advance to the International Rocketry Challenge held at the Paris International Air Show next June.
TARC is sponsored by the Aerospace Industries Association, the National Rocketry Association of Rocketry and 27 industry partners. It is the U.S. aerospace and defense industry's flagship program designed to encourage students to pursue careers in science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM).
Practice launches are in Frisco, as the Southlake airport prevents the rocket from flying at its home base. The rocket, according to admissions and marketing director Corey Sanford, travels 800 feet in the air.
