A year after construction originally started, the new Carroll Senior High School fine arts complex will open just in time for the spring semester.
Approved in 2017 as part of a $208 million bond proposition, the CSHS fine arts complex is a new facility that provides additional band and choir halls, classrooms, offices, practice rooms and a 700-seat performance auditorium. While the project is still under construction, Carroll band and choir will have access to the northern section of the facility and will start the spring semester in its practice rooms.
“This facility will provide an enormous amount of space for our students,” band director Ken Johnson says to MySouthlakeNews.com. “With this new space at our disposal, we will be able to split classes and sections out into the extra areas for instruction, giving our students an even more individualized learning experience.”
Fine arts facilities still undergoing construction include the new band hall, the percussion storage and the color guard locker room. Those rooms are estimated to be completed around mid-March, while the auditorium is projected to be completed in late April.
“We are so very thankful to the citizens of this superb district for seeing the immense value in the arts and providing a space for art to flourish,” choir director Paul Doucet says to MySouthlakeNews.com. “We look forward to collaborating with the band on a more consistent basis, now that all music programs are on one campus.”
