After medaling in the Bands of America Super Regional Competition last month, the Southlake Carroll Dragon Band hit yet another milestone last weekend — making the UIL State Marching Band Contest.
During the Area B marching contest at Pennington Field on Saturday, Oct. 30, the Dragon Band performed its marching show “MYSTIFY” to advance to the UIL State Marching Contest next week. Over 27 bands competed in the 6A preliminaries, with Carroll advancing to the final 10 with a score of 44. After the finals, Carroll finished third with a final score of 18, advancing to the state contest for the first time since 2001.
"Coming off of the 2020-2021 year where we did not do competitive marching band, it's worth noting that half of our marchers have never marched or competed before prior to this marching season,” director of bands Ken Johnson says. “We look forward to representing the Southlake community at state next week.”
The marching band will have a send-off performance at 4 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 6 at Dragon Stadium before it departs for the State Marching Band Contest. The band will perform at 4:10 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 8 at the Alamodome in San Antonio.
