After announcing earlier this month that they were starting the “One with Odessa” campaign, Southlake Carroll Dragon Cheer announced that it has already raised more than $10,000 for the Odessa Community Foundation.
Dragon Cheer’s senior designed a T-shirt that reads, “We are one with Odessa” and features the Texas state outline and a heart connecting the two cities. Dragon Cheer Booster Club President said the team’s original goal was to sell 1,000 shirts. They now have a new goal of raising even more funds for the Odessa Community Foundation.
“We hope to surpass the $15,000 mark,” Tracy says. “For them to raise this much in less than 10 days, it says so much about Dragon Cheer. I have never seen them hold their heads so high. They are so proud.”
Tracy also says it has warmed her heart seeing other Carroll athletic organizations join Dragon Cheer’s efforts including but not limited to the Emerald Belles, the Dragon Band and the football coaching staff.
“I literally have chills thinking about it,” Tracy says.
While the local support has really impacted Dragon Cheer, Tracy says the feedback they have received from Odessa citizens has been especially impactful.
“They are so heartfelt and thanking us for the fundraiser and have told us what a difference it is going to make,” Tracy says. “They are so excited for the love we are bringing.”
There are a few more chances for locals to get their “One with Odessa” shirts. Dragon Cheer will be selling them at the Carroll Middle School, gym Dragon Stadium and Dawson Middle School’s football field 6-7 p.m. tomorrow, September 12. Dragon Cheer is also accepting donations for the cause on its website: SouthlakeCarrollCheer.com. Dragon Cheer will be presenting the funds raised at the football game at Ratliff Stadium on Friday, September 13.
