Historically, it has taken a lot to earn a standing ovation from famed judge Simon Cowell. On Tuesday night, however, the whole nation got to see him jump to his feet for Southlake’s own Emerald Belles drill team on “America’s Got Talent.”
The NBC talent competition series has seen no end of talent over the years. Now in its 14th season, America’s Got Talent has two new judges, actress Gabrielle Union and dancer Julianne Hough, as well as a new host, actor Terry Crews. With fresh faces and the promise of new acts, the excitement level is high for “America’s Got Talent” viewers. For DFW area viewers, that excitement only grew as familiar faces took to the stage. Southlake Carroll’s drill team, the Emerald Belles, earned three “yes” votes on Tuesday night and will be moving on to the next round.
“I couldn't quit smiling,” Emerald Belles director Melissa Page says. “I truly was so excited because they are such a special group to me. It was so fun to stand there and see Julianne Hough who is watching my kids.”
And, Julianne, the two-time professional champion of ABC's “Dancing with the Stars,” had nothing but good things to say to the drill team.
“You were cohesively and collectively beautiful,” she told the Belles on the show.
The team’s only “no” vote came from judge Howie Mandel. Now, with all 78 girls headed to the next round, all Southlake can do is wait. “America’s Got Talent” airs on NBC, Tuesday nights at 7 p.m. and can be streamed on Hulu.
