To say that Reilly Buckley has diverse interests is an understatement. While he is primarily involved in choir, serving as president and participating in both Varsity Choir (Chorale) and Show Choir (Encore), Reilly is also an active member of Odyssey of the Mind, National Honor Society and Spanish National Honor Society.
Odyssey of the Mind is a program that aims to teach creativity by having students solve unique problems in a competitive setting. Reilly’s team has placed in the top 10 at the world championships every year of his high school career. Even when listing his favorite classes, Reilly reveals the type of thought process that makes him a staple on his team.
“English is my favorite class by far because I love to discuss and analyze the books that we’ve read with my peers,” he explains. “I really like hearing other people’s perspectives, especially when they are different than mine.”
With his variety of interests, it should come as no surprise that he plans to dual major in business and the arts when he graduates next May. While he is most proud of his accomplishments with Odyssey of the Mind, it is his choir directors whom he credits having the biggest impact.
“Both of my choir directors, Mr. Doucet and Mr. Ramos, have really impacted my high school experience,” Reilly says. “They have both pushed me to be the best performer that I can be and have been incredibly supportive along the way. They have also provided me with so many wonderful opportunities to express myself through music.”
