According to annual rankings put out by SchoolDigger, Carroll ISD is the top district in the state of Texas. In 2014-15, the district enrolled 7,771 students from pre-K to 12th grade, had 5 ranked elementary schools, 2 ranked middle schools, 0 ranked high schools, and a rank score of 0.995 (which is 8 points better than the previous year).
The Dragons top Dallas' Highland Park ISD at No. 2 and Texarkana's Red Lick ISD at No. 3.
These rankings do not currently include STAAR math scores for grades 3-8. The Texas Education Agency will not be releasing math scores until September 2015, SchoolDigger noted. The list will be revised with updated rankings when these scores are made available. For more information, see the Texas Education Agency announcement.
Ranking updates are approximately yearly, usually the same day the Texas Department of Education releases their test scores. Districts are ranked by averaging each school's rank percentile to create an overall rank score.
SchoolDigger ranks schools based on test scores supplied by each state's Department of Education.
"We calculate an Average Standard Score by normalizing and averaging each school's test scores across all tests and grades," the Frequently Asked Questions section says. "That average score is then sorted. The school with the highest score is ranked #1, the second highest #2, and so on."
District rankings are calculated as follows: for each district, SchoolDigger determines a Rank Score by averaging the rank percentile for each of the schools in the district. This calculation is made for all districts, and then the list of districts is sorted by Rank Score. The district with the highest score is ranked #1. This year, that district was Carroll ISD.
Congratulations to the district for this fine recognition. For the full list, click here.
