Another Carroll ISD athlete tested positive for COVID-19 after attending athletic workouts last week.
According to a district email sent on Sunday, June 21, the athlete worked out with six people in one sport and eight people in another sport before he started feeling fatigued on Thursday evening. On Saturday, the athlete started developing a low-grade fever and later tested positive for the virus. He did not show symptoms while working out according to the email, and the athletes and coaches he worked with have already been contacted and quarantined for two weeks.
The first athlete that tested positive previously worked out on June 8 and 9 before he came down with symptoms. CISD athletic director Steve Keasler says both cases are minor and unrelated to each other, and there’s no reason to believe that either athlete contracted the virus at the workouts.
Per a previous CISD policy, workouts for other CISD sports will remain outside until further notice. Baseball workouts will also be canceled until July 4th due to a shortage of coaches.
The district encourages parents and students to continue following CDC guidelines and contact their physician if they start to experience symptoms of COVID-19. To stay up to date regarding the district’s ongoing response to the coronavirus, go to CISD’s #SAFEdragon page at SouthlakeCarroll.edu.
