While Carroll ISD is still considering several plans on how to return to school later in the year, the Texas Education Agency came out with a list of recommendations on Tuesday afternoon that will help school districts safely resume classes in the fall.
According to the draft guidelines, the TEA suggests wearing masks, regularly washing your hands, using hand sanitizer and maintaining social distance from other classmates, teachers and school staff by at least 6 feet. Students and staff are encouraged to take their temperature and self-screen themselves for COVID-19 symptoms at home before coming to school, including excessive coughing, shortness of breath and loss of taste or smell.
If the self-screening indicates a possible infection of COVID-19, those individuals are encouraged to stay home and participate in remote learning. Parents may request virtual instruction from any school system that offers it.
If potential COVID-19 cases are identified on campus, schools must immediately remove those individuals, conduct a temperature check and disinfect any areas or surfaces the individual may have interacted with.
The TEA may update its guidelines any time over the summer pending additional information. To read the draft guidelines, visit TEA.Texas.gov. To stay up to date on the district’s ongoing response to COVID-19, go to CISD’s #SAFEdragon page at SouthlakeCarroll.edu.
