After canceling spring sports and state championships in April, the University Interscholastic League announced that schools can resume athletics starting on June 8.
UIL released guidelines at the end of May that would allow coaches and athletes to resume training over the summer. According to the guidelines, all coaches and athletes must participate in daily health screenings to participate in workouts.
Athletes must attend a Zoom meeting with their coach before practice, and all indoor activities will have no more than 25% capacity. Because of this, indoor workouts will have an athlete-to-coach ratio of 10-to-1, while outdoor workouts will have a ratio of 15-to-1. All athletes will remain 6-10 feet between their coaches, and facilities and equipment will be disinfected and sanitized after each use.
Under these stipulations, high school male athletes can begin workouts on June 9, while female athletes can begin workouts on June 15. Middle school athletes can begin training on June 16. Locker rooms and showers will remain closed throughout all practices.
