Walnut Grove Elementary
Carroll ISD officially has a new Compassion Cup winner. The school district hosted the fourth annual Give Back Challenge last week, a five-day challenge where CISD campuses competed to see who could collect the most $10 to $50 gift cards for charity. Proceeds benefit the Stepping Stones Foundation, a Keller nonprofit for at-risk children.
The district raised a total of $18,629 through the challenge, according to MySouthlakeNews.com, with the highest three performing campuses including Walnut Grove Elementary, Johnson Elementary and Carroll Elementary. Walnut Grove raised the most out of the 11 campuses with $7,877 in gift cards.
“We are just so proud of our community, our parents and our kids who rallied together to be generous and give back to Stepping Stones,” Allison Fike, Walnut Grove Elementary assistant principal, says. “I think they were all excited to be a part of it and knew it was toward a good cause.”
As the winners of the Give Back Challenge, Walnut Grove will receive the notable Ozarka Compassion Cup from the Challenge’s previous winners, Johnson Elementary. They were also announced as the Challenge winners at the Dragon’s home game last Friday at Dragon Stadium.
“They were wholeheartedly in it to win it,” Allison remarks. “The kids were jumping up and down. They were so excited.”
Walnut Grove Elementary will be presented with the Compassion Cup at their next school assembly on campus. They will retain the trophy at their campus until another school wins it at the next Give Back Challenge next year.
