Food plays a vital role in each of our lives, whether it is deciding what we want to cook, feed our children or where to meet someone for lunch to catch up. In today’s society, we celebrate and follow foodies on social media to find inspiration!
But what if we allowed food to invite us into compassion, comfort, creation, grace and more? Food Network star and best-selling author, Melissa d’Arabian, will be at White’s Chapel on September 19 at 7 p.m. to help showcase the powerful role food can have in our lives.
In her new book, "Tasting Grace: Discovering the Power of Food to Connect Us to God, One Another, and Ourselves," she shares 16 different invitations to transform one’s perception of food and the role it plays in life.
“I know we are connected simply by the fact we share the same world, and we all eat. We all know the feeling of hunger pangs, some more acutely than others, and we all know the nourishing feeling of being well-fed by food and company,” shares d’Arabian. “My hope is that we can start a deeper conversation about food and its power to bring us together, draw out the best in us, and hear God’s voice in the midst of it all.”
As a once Keller-native, d’Arabian knows this community well and understands the challenges of picky eating, creating budget-friendly meals, as well as family-friendly recipes. Melissa and her husband, Philippe, have four daughters – who all double as official taste testers.
Through her experiences on Food Network, d’Arabian explained how she learned to trust the ingredients and join God in the act of creation. Whether you are a mom struggling to put together a healthy meal for your family every night, or a single career woman longing for fellowship around your table, attendees will draw both encouragement and inspiration from Tasting Grace on September 19.
“Food is such a personal thing for each of us, but often we forget that it was created by God to nourish and sustain us. Melissa’s book reminds us that we are all created by God, and we need to celebrate that and put the love back in our food and the sacred table fellowship it can bring,” shares Rev. Joy Roberson, Pastor for Women’s Ministries at White’s Chapel.
Cost is $25 per person, which includes a copy of d’Arabian’s new book, Tasting Grace. Register for this event online. Childcare is available.
