Southlake sure loves its Dragons. When Southlake Style launched its Midseason MVP Poll as part of our Ultimate Dragon Pride Promotion two weeks ago, thousands of locals voted and voiced their opinions on Dragon Football.
Unofficially ending on Oct. 27, our Midseason MVP Poll garnered over 4,000 entries and more than 2,000 registered participants during its run.
For this poll, we asked Dragon fans who is their favorite spirit squad member, midseason offensive and defensive MVP, rising star and unsung hero.
For fans’ favorite spirit squad member, Crew won with 43.8% of the vote, with the Dragon Band following with 31.8% of the vote. The Emerald Belles claimed the third spot with 15.1% and Dragon Cheer closed out the category with 9.3%.
When it comes to Dragon Football’s offense, fans are loving wide receiver RJ Maryland. The senior — who has 32 receptions for 574 yards and eight touchdowns through eight games — won the most votes for midseason offensive MVP with 380. In second place was quarterback Kaden Anderson, with 165. Running back Owen Allen and wide receiver Landon Samson followed with 139 and 90 votes, respectively.
For Dragon defense, fans came out in droves for senior captain Benecio Porras. The linebacker received 1,753 votes — the most of any player in the poll — and claimed the title of midseason defensive MVP. Defensive back Max Reyes followed with 1,352 votes while senior Nate Gall and junior Logan Anderson respectively earned 113 and 96 votes.
In our rising star poll, sophomore running back James Lehman earned the most votes with 607 and was followed by Cade Parks, who garnered 408 votes. As for the Dragon unsung hero, fans couldn’t forget Calder Bray’s game-saving field goal block in Week 2.
