Southlake Carroll Claims 2nd Consecutive Lone Star Cup
The rankings are in! The final scores for thebrUniversity Interscholastic League (UIL) Lone Star Cup have been posted, and thebrstate of Texas is once again aware of Dragon dominance. With a combined fivebrstate championships for the 2012–2013 school year, the Dragons took home thebrprestigious award given annually to one high school — per class designation 1A–5Abr— based on their performance in district and state championships.
With a finalbrscore of 122 points, Southlake soared past perennial powerhouse Conroe ThebrWoodlands, who finished second place behind Carroll for the second year in abrrow with a total score of 100. After winning the Lone Star Cup last year,brSouthlake Carroll repeated its success by protecting the tradition and winningbrits fourth cup since the 1997–1998 school year and second 5A Lone Star Cupbrtitle in as many years.
The Dragons'brstate championship binge was led by the boys and girls cross-country, swimmingbrand diving teams who each took home state championships during their respectivebrseasons. Courtney Kriegshauser, a member of Dragon track and field, took home abrstate championship in the 1600-meter, while swimmer Jonathan Roberts and diverbrBryce Klein set 5A state records in the 200-meter and 1-meter dive,brrespectively.
As thebrwinning school, Southlake earned the prestigious distinction as the bestbroverall athletic and academic program in 5A Texas competition. In addition tobrreceiving the UIL Lone Star Cup trophy to decorate the senior high's hallways,brSouthlake Carroll will also receive a $1,000 scholarship donation.
ThebrUniversity of Texas at Austin, in an effort to provide leadership and guidancebrto public school debate and athletic teachers, created the UIL in 1910. Since itsbrinception, it has grown into the largest interschool organization of its kindbrin the world.
