With the fourth and final Lone Star Cup update of the year, Southlake Carroll maintained its year-long lead to win first place with 111 points overall. The win, which will become official on July 1, is Southlake Carroll's ninth in school history. This year, the Dragons were followed by Katy Seven Lakes with 93 points and Allen with 90 points.
The school year got off to a hot start after the first of four planned updates, the Dragons topped the leaderboard with 47 points, followed by Austin Vandegrift with 37 points and Lewisville Flower Mound with 34 points.
Given annually by the University Interscholastic League, schools in each classification earn points based on their athletics teams’ performances in district and state championships. The winning school in each classification receives the UIL Lone Star Cup trophy and a $1,000 scholarship.
With the last update, the scoring now includes the season results for team tennis, cross-country, marching band, military marching band, volleyball, BEST robotics, football, congress, spirit, swimming and diving, wrestling, mariachi, film, basketball, baseball, softball, Robotics FIRST, soccer, golf, track and field, tennis, theatrical design and one-act play.
Last year, Carroll came in third place for the Lone Star Cup with 90 points, following behind Conroe The Woodlands' 117 points and Allen’s 98.
