If anyone is going through a rollercoaster of emotions, it's Carroll senior running back TJ McDaniel. Despite a 13-game win streak being ended by Duncanville in the quarterfinals, McDaniel is certainly ending his high school football career on a high note as he takes home the Landry Award.
The Landry Award is a prestigious honor that recognizes the top high school football player in North Texas who demonstrates positive character and leadership attributes. With 2,122 rushing yards and 34 touchdowns, it's safe to say McDaniel fits that description. He will continue his football career at the collegiate level next year for SMU.
Named after football icon Tom Landry, this award is basically the Heisman Trophy of North Texas high school football. In fact, the 2014 Landry Award recipient Kyler Murray, now quarterback for the University of Oklahoma, was recently named winner of the Heisman.
